About Weguns

We're here
for the animals.

Weguns is a plant-based mode for lifestyle apps. That's what it does. Why it exists is simpler: we want fewer animals on plates, and we think the kindest way to get there can also be the easiest one.

The part that hurts

Since you opened this page,

About 2,600 land animals are killed for food every second.

land animals were killed for food.

That's about 2,600 every second, 83 billion a year. Most of them are chickens: about 200 million a day.

A chicken breast gets typed into a meal app. The chicken, obviously, would prefer it didn't.

Nobody types that thinking about the chicken. People aren't cruel. The animal option is simply the default: it's quick, it's familiar, and at the second the meal gets decided, nobody offers anything else.

That second is where we want to be.

The count is an estimate based on 83 billion land animals slaughtered for meat in 2022 (UN FAO data, via Our World in Data). It doesn't include fish, or animals that die before slaughter, so the real number is higher.

The part that gives us hope

The decision takes half a second.
So can the change.

Here's what keeps us going: about 4 in 10 people in Germany already call themselves flexitarian. They want to eat less meat. They don't need a lecture. They need an easy yes, right where they decide.

So Weguns puts one plant-based swap right there, inside the meal plan. Tap it, and that exact meal becomes plant-based. Go on, flip it.

Flexitarian share: BMEL Ernährungsreport 2024 (Forsa survey).

How we do it

No lecture. No pledge. No documentary.

  • A lecture
  • A pledge
  • A documentary
  • Just a button, inside an app people already open every day

You don't have to be vegan to say yes. You don't have to promise anything about tomorrow. One meal, one swap, one good feeling. That's the whole ask.

Why it can grow

Kindness that pays for itself.

Most good causes run on donations, and donations run out. Weguns runs on sales. We're a company, not a charity, on purpose: a good idea that pays for itself can keep growing long after the good intentions get tired.

The brand pays only when something sells.
No ad budget burned on people who never buy.
The lifestyle app earns a share of every sale.
So it has a real reason to keep plant-based mode switched on.
The shopper earns Weguns Wallet balance.
Earn on food, spend anywhere. Weguns funds it.

So every swap helps pay for the next one. That's how this can grow from one meal to millions.

See how the money moves
What it adds up to

One swap barely moves anything.
Enough of them is the only thing that ever has.

Every dot is one meal. Watch what enough of them looks like.

An illustration: 96 meals turning plant-based one by one.

What we promise

Four promises we keep.

  1. We say it plainly.

We want to take animals off plates. We won't dress that up, and we won't hide it.

  2. No guilt, ever.

You don't have to be vegan to say yes. One swap at a time is enough, and it's always your choice.

  3. Honest numbers.

Impact is counted conservatively. If we're not sure, we count less, not more.

  4. People come first.

We never share names, emails or health data. Numbers are counted across people, never per person.

A note from the founder

Hi, I'm Japs.

I used to eat a lot of chicken. Every day. And while I cooked it, I listened to podcasts about veganism. I knew the arguments. The chicken still went in the pan.

That gap is why Weguns exists. Information wasn't my problem. The default was. Nobody offered me anything else in the second I decided what to eat.

What changed me took time: my education, a Vipassana retreat, my reading in philosophy and theology. Most people won't get that time, and the animals can't wait for it. So Weguns doesn't ask anyone to become someone else. It changes one second: the moment a meal gets decided.

I love animals, and I won't say that quietly. I want fewer of them on plates, starting now, at a scale that's hard to ignore. I also love technology that makes the right thing the easy thing. Weguns is both.

Vetain is live in our catalogue. More plant-based brands are joining now, and we're talking with lifestyle apps across DACH. Every one of them makes the next swap possible.

If you make plant-based food, build a lifestyle app, or simply want this to exist, write to me. I'd love to meet you, ideally over coffee in Berlin.

Every swap is a win
for animals.

It's that small, and that possible. Have a look, or just flip the toggle yourself.
